Defect

A LOW AIR PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT LOCATED IN THE DRIVER'S INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILS TO ACTIVATE IF THE FRONT BRAKE AIR RESERVOIR SYSTEM FALLS BELOW 60 PSI. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS NO.121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS."

Consequence

CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: LOW AIR PRESSURE IN THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM COULD LEAD TO DECREASED VEHICLE BRAKING PERFORMANCE OR CAUSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM TO ENGAGE WITHOUT THE DRIVER GIVEN VISUAL OR AUDIBLE WARNING.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL A WIRING HARNESS WHICH CORRECTLY CONNECTS THE FRONT BRAKE RESERVOIR SYSTEM LOW PRESSURE SWITCH TO THE LOW AIR PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT LOCATED IN THE DRIVER'S INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.

What owners report

Verbatim reports filed with NHTSA, lightly edited for readability and with personal information removed.

“This is the second michelin tire on my motor home to blow out both on the inside rear of the vehicle and both in the same location on the tire. It was the sidewall. I checked the tire pressure regularly and did not hit anything which would have caused the problem. *ak”
